    Question 890FX Deluxe3 with Gskills Ripjaw 4gb DDR3 1600

I've been having nothing but trouble getting my system running, in fact, I can't even get it to post. Hypothetical system: 890FX Deluxe3, AMD Phenom II x6 Thuban 2.8ghz (125w), 16gb (4gb a stick) of Gskills Ripjaw DDR3 1600, GeForce GTX 260, and a western digital 1TB caviar black 6.0Gb/s SATA, 750W Modular UltraX Power Supply.

It refuses to post. It will power up; all attached fans spin and the power/reset/clrcmos buttons light up, but it doesn't go past that point and I get nothing from the diagnostic LED. I initially thought the mobo was bad, RMA'd it and I'm facing the same issue. Now I'm down to wondering whether it's a memory incompatibility issue (which would make me very happy because then I can return my ram and buy some that fits from microcenter) or if it's my CPU that's bad (which would make me very sad because I would have to wait for ANOTHER RMA from New Egg).

What I need to know is if what I bought is simply incompatible with this board and that's why it refuses to function, or if I need to try to determine if my CPU is bad. I did notice that this particular size of Gskill ram is not listed in the QVL for this board (far too late, unfortunately), so I'm leaning toward it as the issue here.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Yes it could be incompatible. You may want to try a single module in each bank.
Gskill makes different modules in Gskills Ripjaw DDR3 1600. We would need the part number of the memory. You may want to try one stick. You may want to see if it is in the QVL list. It could be the memory also it could be the cpu.

    Ahh yes, my mistake. You can see the exact memory I purchased here: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL

Is there some way to test the CPU beyond dropping in one that's known good?

Swap it or have a computer store test it. You may want to test a single memory module. Or test 2 memory modules in single mode. 1 in slot 1 and 1 in slot 3.

I use that exact memory in my Deluxe 4 with no problem. That Ram should go in the White slots. Make sure they are seated good. I got this from Gskill when I questioned them about stability. "Raising CPU-NB Voltage +0.1V can stabilize DDR3-1600, or increasing DRAM Voltage +0.1V to 1.60V can also fix this." I did both and it worked fine. But you have to be able to get into the BIOS to do this. Also make sure you have the latest BIOS.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

    Mostly because I'm an idiot.

I missed a connection. All my headaches were because of my own inattention/ignorance.

But I appreciate that you were all willing to help. Hopefully I can manage to return the favor for someone here at some point.
