Thread: Dead CPU or bad BIOS settings

  1. #1

Default Dead CPU or bad BIOS settings

    I'm getting desperate.

I have an ASRock N68C-S UCC.
I purchased a bundle and it ran fine. Then I noticed that the CPU supplied was a single core Athlon (AMD Athlon 64 2650e - ADG2650IAV4DP) Rather than the dual core which was advertised.

The vendor sent me a replacement cpu. (AMD Athlon X2 5400+ - ADO5400IAA5DO)

My process was to boot up the pc go into BIOS settings
    Select Default BIOS setting
    Save settings
    Shut down

Replaced the cpu for the new one.

Power on and I get nothing
the board is live - the fans are running and the cpu is getting hot but there is no signal going out to the monitor (onboard graphics)

If I swap the first CPU back, it boots ok

Have I missed something or have I been sent a dead CPU?

    Memory is 2x 2gb pc2 5300 cl5 240 pin dimm
    Kingston KVR667d2n5/2g

    Please help. Desperate.

    I have my answer.

The vendor sent another CPU and it works just fine. I was just unlucky and got a dead one.
