Default ASRock P67 Extreme 6 Memory Limitations

    Hi All,

I'm new to the forums, I've just purchased my first ASRock Motherboard and had a quick question! Forgive me if it's been asked before but I haven't been able to find any relevant threads using the search function.

    To the point:

On the ASRock spec sheet for the P67 Extreme6 board it states that the board supports up to 32GB of memory. This implies that it supports 4x8GB DIMMs. On the Memory QVL for this board however, the largest supported DIMM size listed are 4x4GB sticks.

I currently have 4x8GB DIMMs that I'd love to get running with this board but it refuses to boot while they're installed. I just get the BIOS beep plus the Dr. Debug error message that means "No usable memory detected". I can't remember the error code exactly and I don't have the manual on me at the moment.

I'm getting by with 4x2GB DIMMs in the interim but would love to use the 8GB sticks instead.

Is there some sort of BIOS update I need to apply or wait for so I can use these?

My system specs just in case:
    - P67 Extreme6 motherboard
    - Intel Core i5 2500K 3.3ghz (Sandy Bridge)
    - 4x2GB G.skill DIMMs (currently used to get the system working)
    - Nvidia GTX280 1GB card
    - Windows 7 x64

If anyone could give me some advice or information that'd be great. I requested support via the ASRock 11 days ago but am yet to get a reply from them.

    Thanks in advanced!

    Hi Joe,

Can you please let me know the brand and model of the 8GB sticks.

Also have you updated your Motherboard Bios with the newest one?

Hey mate thanks for the reply.

The sticks are Samsung 8GB DDR3-1066 DIMMs, 1.5v

And nope, I haven't updated to the latest version. I've just checked the website and it's currently at BIOS v1.60 released on the 17th of March 2011. Reckon that's worth a try?

    Cheers!

Let's try updating the Motherboard bios first and see if that helps.

Ok I think I found your problem.

Is this the ram you have? Memory > Desktop Memory > Samsung Electronics Co Ltd M393B1K70BH1-CF84 - Samsung 8GB DDR3 1066MHZ PC3-8500 240-PINS DIMM MEMORY Mfr P/N M393B1K70BH1-CF84

If the answer is yes. Than I am sorry to let you know. But this ram will not work on this board or mostly any non server board.

This ram is registered and ECC ram. Which isnt supported. The ram has to be unregistered and non-ecc to work.

    Sorry bro.

    Chipset - Intel® P67
Memory - Dual Channel DDR3 Memory Technology (see CAUTION 2)
    - 4 x DDR3 DIMM slots

    non-ECC, un-buffered memory (see CAUTION 3)

Ah you're a champion mate! Just the answer I was looking for.
Such a shame though, would've been great to be able to use it!

Guess I'll have to see if they make P67 ATX boards that support Registered memory haha.

    Cheers buddy!
