Question 890GX Extreme 3 will not boot after installing SSD

    Hey guys,

Yesterday I assembled my new system. First I used a normal harddrive, but today I added my SSD. Installing Windows 7 x64 went fine, but after a few reboots, it will hang at the Asrock logo screen. The debug-led says "78", but I can't figure out what it means.
I also tried removing the SSD, but the problem remains.
I hope someone can help me out.

    Thanks!

    My set-up:

    Asrock 890GX Extreme 3
    AMD Phenom II X2 555
    4GB Kingston ValueRAM
    500GB Seagate HDD
    60GB OCZ Vertex 2
    Antec Earthwatts 500W

    Hi Tboerdijk,

Error Code 76 = Initializes IPL devices controlled by BIOS and option ROMs.
IPL devices are Hard Drives, CD Rom etc.

Please update your motherboard to its newest Bios. That might fix your problem.

If it does not work, or you already have the latest bios. Please let me know, and I will help you solve your problem with another fix.

    Keep me updated.

    Thanks for your quick reply!
Unfortunately, I already have BIOS version 2.50, which I believe is the latest.
Could some setting in the BIOS be wrong? I set everything back to default.

    Please enter your bios.
    1. Go into the advanced category
    2. Under SATA Operation Mode
    3. Select AHCI

    Save and exit bios.

    Keep me updated.

BTW in case you cant even enter the BIOS

You can easily Reset/Clear the CMOS(Bios) with the motherboard you have.
    Step 1. Turn off PC
Step 2. There should be a Clear CMOS button on your motherboard. Press that.
    Step 3. Turn on PC
Step 4. See if it fully starts up.

If it doesnt startup, please let us know.

    Keep me updated.

I tried both the things you suggested.
I can get into the BIOS, although it takes a long time.
    The problem still remains :(

Please remove all usb devices and other except for your keyboard.

Let me know if this makes the bios load quicker.
