890GX PRO3 no POST Error code 54
Hi Experts, I need your help here!!
I just bought this motherboard and everything in it. Got the error code 54 and nothing comes out on the screen. I'm using the on-board video and tried with d-sub / dvi and hdmi connectors nothing comes out on the screen.
Error 54 means "Unspecified memory initialization error"
If I remove the RAM the error does not change
If I remove the RAM *and* reset the CMOS, the error changes to error code 50
I'm using 2X8Gb Wintec Server Series DDR3 1333 ECC (3RSH13339R5H-16GK)
Tested the RAM in the white sockets, then in the blue sockets, then with just one dimm in each socket but the error does not change. Always 54.
Remove the CPU and installed it again -> same thing..
Would this memory work on this motherboard/CPU combination?
ASRock 890GX PRO3 AM3 R
P1.20-15A
AMD Phenom II 3.3Ghz 6 core
16GB Ram (2x8Gb) Wintec Server Series DDR3 1333 ECC (3RSH13339R5H-16GK)
Thunderbolt Power Supply 650W
1.5TB Hitachi SATA 6Gb/s

The problem is that your memory is ECC *buffered* RAM. Consumer MBs never support it to my knowledge.
From the Asrock 890GX PRO3 specification page:
MEMORY:
- Dual Channel DDR3 memory technology
- 4 x DDR3 DIMM slots
- Supports DDR3 2000(OC)/1866(OC)/1800(OC)/1600(OC)/1333/1066/800 non-ECC, un-buffered memory
- Max. capacity of system memory: 32GB*</snip>

Thanks for your answer!!
It makes a lot of sense, I actually read the documentation but it was hard to find non ECC 8gb modules.. I thought it wouldn't matter... my bad.
I want to go with 16gb now but have room for upgrade to 32gb later.. Have you guys know what 8gb modules can I put in in exchange?
Thanks a lot!

No kidding, I spent two hours looking for 32Gb non-ECC memory kit (4x8gb). It seems there's none in the market..
am I missing something?
How asrock even tested this MB for 32GB support?

Just out of curiosity, why do you need 16 or 32GBs of RAM? If Newegg doesn't carry 8GB sticks then I don't think you're going to find them for the time being.
Also, filling all four RAM slots usually limits or complicates any overclock.

I plan using this as a virtualization lab machine running hyper-V on Windows 2008 r2. The amount of ram limits the number of 64 bit servers that I could ran on it..
I'm not really into OC, I will leave it standard for the most part.

I Just wanted to share the solution for my problem. You were right channeledbymodem! the problem was with the ECC sticks.
I bought this 16Gb kit which is working perfectly. Kingston HyperX 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop
Memory Model KHX1600C9D3K4/16GX
No 32GB though :( i guess I need to wait for that.
Thank you guys!!

Thanks!
