Default Can't install WnXP Pro x64 on my Z68

    Hey folks,

This may not be the best place to ask, but I've tried everything I can think of to resolve the problem without success.

Basically, when I try to install WinXP Pro, 64-bit, on my new build the installation hangs on "Setup is starting Windows".

I have already successfully installed dual boot Win2K Pro and WinXP Pro (32 bit) OS's on this machine. I have seen many postings on this problem but, after trying all the suggested fixes I'm still unable to install XP x64.

    My setup is:
    z68 Extreme4 MB
    2600K CPU (not overclocked)
16GB Corsair Vengenace RAM at 1600 (CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9 - matched set)
    2xSeagate 500GB SATA2 drives - IDE not AHCI
LiteOn DVD iHAS424 SATA2 - IDE not AHCI
    Corsair 850AX power supply
    Corsair H60 cooler

Have tried booting up with only 1 stick (4GB) of RAM, disabling USB2.0 support, disabling ACPI, burning a new XP ISO, etc, etc, etc, all without success. Have flashed to 1.50 BIOS and updated all drivers. MemTest86'd for 8+ hours with no errors. System runs cool at around 27 C.

I'm sure people have installed XP Pro x64 on Z68's and ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Would be glad, of course, to provide any additional info requested.

    Thanks,
    Zag

    Kick,

Thanks for the quick response. I need XP64 to support a few software licensees but it would be nice to have even if just for testing purposes. As I mentioned, I have seen many, many reports on the net regarding problems installing XP, all with the same symptom (ie, getting to the "Setup is starting Windows" screen and hanging). It would be nice to know why this is happening!

    Hopefully, someone will enlighten me.
