Default Z68 Pro Sata 3 or Sata 2

I bought a 128 GIG Sata 3 SSD and two 1 TB Sata 3 drives.

I am going to Raid 1 the 1 TB drives but I really want them to be on the Sata 3 ports. Then I am going to use the 100 GIGS of the SSD as the boot drive and the other 28 GIGS for the Z68 Caching.

The question is what do you guys think will run faster?

If I put the SSD on Sata3_0 and then the two 1 TB drives in Raid 1 on Sata2_4 and Sata2_5

    OR

If I put the two 1 TB drives in Raid 1 on Sata3_0 and Sata3_1 and the SSD on Sata2_4?

I really wish the board had 4 sata 3 Intel ports but I would need to switch over to the AsMedia if I want to use those Sata 3 ports and then I can raid it and I understand I should have the boot SSD drive on the Intel Sata ports.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    aka

Default Re: Z68 Pro Sata 3 or Sata 2

Well Im just spouting what u have probably read already in that

There are no sata 3 capable hdd's afaik, Im not even sure that sata 2 is a limitation, maybe some can approach the maximum data burst rate of sata 2 at times, depending on cache.

Sata 3 ssd's can exceed the sata 2 specifications for data transfer.

SSD is supposedly much faster in general by up to 5 times, things like storing large data files ,only supposed to be about twice as fast as good hdd's

If it was me Id go ssd on 0
Then since going raid the 2 hdd's on the sata 2 ports , or test em out on the marvell controller sata 3 ports(z68 pro has those yes?) and see the performance change.

nb I dont mean that u cant get hdd's with a sata3 interface ,just that physical hdd's arent capable of exploiting it,unless there have been some new developments, what brand/s are the drives anyway?
