well everyone was on the right track.

it does have to do with the hard drive and it ended up being the intel crapid storage driver install that screwed things up.

not sure if i really need crapid storage or not.

how much of an improvement does the rapid storage driver provide?

i tried using the cd version of the driver i tried downloading from the web asrock site and I also tried right click the storage device in device manager and every time windows would not boot after that and i had to revert to last known good configuration to make it boot.
