Just to clarify things, in post #11:
    ok,,,just tried the following.

Ran pc with only 1 graphics card.
    Ran pc in ide mode
    Reseated revo drive

still no change....Great read speed but big drop in write speed. :(
It sounds like you removed the video card from the PCIE4 slot and tested with the RevoDrive still in the x4 PCIE5 slot.
Your RevoDrive performed better than it did in the X58 setup when it was in the PCIE4 slot.

so does this mean that the motherboard is faulty as I bought this board because it clearly stated that the pciex speed was 8x8x4 when all three slots were populated.

    thx for the interest btw

I was referring to this part

Also when I said better than the x58....in the x58 i was getting 490 write speeds....on the asrock in pciex4 slot it was 510mbs not much better...but better ;)

    here is another update

removed both graphics cards. Left Revo in pciex5 x4 slot and ran atto test. NO CHANGE slow writes of 320mbs

moved Revo to top slot, pciex2 x16 slot (x16 when only 1 slot is occupied) and ran Atto. FULL SPEED ACHIEVED, 515 mbs write and 530MBS read

does this help identifying the issue/problem

    thx

just had a response from Asrock teckiguys

They tested another board in there labs with same set up as me and this is what they say.

    Dear Mr. Griffiths,

I tested it and could reproduce the issue, I will forward my findings to R&D in Taiwan.
The read speed stays okay, but the write speed is slower in PCIE5 slot.

    Kind regards/ mit freundlichen Gruessen,
    ASRock Support

so now waiting to find out what they are going to do.

    Good news....kind of.
Apparently your motherboard is "normal", as they duplicated the problem with their test system.
Hopefully an updated bios will fix the problem, assuming that there isn't a "fatal" hardware design flaw.
    Good luck.
