Default How do I stop my Asrock mobo from whining?

    Hi there everybody!

So I recently finished building my new Sandy Bridge rig. I have an Asrock Extreme4 Gen 3, with a XFX 5850, a 2500k, and an Antec Truepower New 650w. Everything is working perfectly except for one thing.

It emits a low frequency hum/whine during use. It doesn't increase during certain activities and it doesn't decrease. It stays at a constant level of whine that's so annoying, it's burrowing a hole in my ear. This has been going on for around 2 weeks ever since I got it. ARGH!

Is there anyway to stop this noise? I read somewhere that was an option you could toggle in the BIOS that could help, but I'm not sure how much truth there is to that. Any advice will do, this is really driving me MENTAL!

    Thanks for reading!

you hear this noise through headphones or without? if through headphones route your front panel audio wire away from your gpu or cpu as it will whine if its close

look in the bios for c1e and disable it,if that doesnt fix it try disablind c3/c6 in the bios, select and use balanced power profile in windows 7 power saving, let me know how you get on as i can advise further

Are you sure that the sound is coming from the motherboard?
Other possible sources: power supply, video card, or fans.
You might be able to locate the noise source by carefully using a cardboard tube held next to your ear.
Try following Wazza300's bios suggestions first.

it could be a psu or gpu interference,if its just a constant whine(no rise and fall) then i dont think its anything to do with the mb/cpu power saving

could test furthur with disabling sata3 unless your using it and usb3 see if the noise stops, then test with eist disabled in advanced cpu features(might be labed differently on your mb)

if non of that stops it i would test with another psu if you can,or with onboard graphics if your mb supports it just to rule out graphic card

BTW,download and run dpc latency checker and see what it says,it should look like this if all is well, close any asrock monitoring software before running it
