Question Bulldozer BIOS update for most Asrock AM3 boards?

Over the last few months Asrock have updated almost all their old AM3 boards BIOS's with new CPU microcode, but AMD haven't released a new AM3 CPU for quite a long time so what are these BIOS updates for if they are not for Bulldozer?

    Example: ASRock > Products > Motherboard > M3A770DE > Download

The CPU support lists have not been updated for BIOS 1.80, but Bulldozer chips aren't even listed on many official AM3+ boards yet. I realise that AM3 isn't officially supported by AMD, and given the AM3+ marketing information Asrock put out a few months ago it seems strange they would then try and add Bulldozer support to their old boards, but I wouldn't put it past them.

    ASRock AM3+

Even with bios support there are obviously no guarantees, but if anyone has tried dropping a Bulldozer into any of these Asrock AM3 boards I'd be interested to know what happens...

    :)

It looks like they were up to something after all! 8)

Several old AM3 boards have just been updated for Bulldozer:

    890FX Deluxe4 http://www.asrock.com/mb/beta.asp?Model=890FX%20Deluxe4
    770 Extreme3 http://www.asrock.com/mb/beta.asp?Model=770%20Extreme3
    770iCafe http://www.asrock.com/mb/beta.asp?Model=770iCafe
    770DE3L http://www.asrock.com/mb/beta.asp?Model=770DE3L

Sadly there is no update for my M3A770DE... 8(

I might risk flashing the 770DE3L bios on it, they are very similar boards.

the VMR on your board is not strong enough to handle BD no BD for you

The VRM phases look the same to me, and it's been running a Deneb quad at 4GHz (1.5v) for 3+ years,

so I think a 4 or 6 "core" BD chip would be fine, I would be happy to risk it...

k but don't cry when you try and flash the wrong bios and it bricks .-.

It looks like we can add the M3A770DE to that list! 8)

I just flashed mine with the 770DE3L beta bios and it works fine,

(except the white memory slots but that was expected)

I'll test an FX-6100 on it soon, fingers crossed...

You have done a risk I would never do :-) Recently for me such a mistake made a lot of trouble!

It was no risk for me really, I could see that the boards were actually the same design,

and I had another board with the same type of BIOS chip so I could "hot-flash" the chip back if it did not work,

I am 99% sure bulldozer will work on the M3A770DE, but the beta bios is pretty buggy so I hope they update it.

I don't think we will get to 5GHz on this board but at least we can try now, I will let you know what happens...
