    Unhappy ASRock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3 RAM Problem (Corsair Vengeance DDR3 16GB Kit)

    Hello everyone

I recently built a new computer, but i can't run with all 16GB of RAM.

    Code:

    Computer Spec:Case: NZXT Phantom Crafted Series Special Edition (Black/Orange)Mobo: ASRock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3CPU: Intel Core i7-2600k 3.4GHzPSU: Corsair Enthusiast Series TX850 V2RAM: Corsair Vengeance CL9, PC3-12800, 1600MHz, 9-9-9-24, DDR3 SDRAM 16GB Kit (4x4GB)GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 580 Lightning Extreme Edition (3GB GDDR5)CPU Cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H80 Liquid CPU CoolerHDD-1: Corsair SSD Force 3 Series 90GBHDD-2: Hitachi Deskstar 1TB, 7200RPMHDD-3: Samsung 250GB, 7200RPMHDD-4: Samsung 250GB, 7200RPMOS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
I've updated the BIOS and tried the following RAM combinations:

    4x4GB in A1, A2, B1, B2 = Dr. Debug Code 45, Monitor: No Signal

    3x4GB in A1, A2, B1 = Dr. Debug Code 45, Monitor: No Signal
    3x4GB in A1, A2, B2 = Dr. Debug Code 45, Monitor: No Signal
    3x4GB in A1, B1, B2 = Dr. Debug Code 45, Monitor: No Signal
    3x4GB in A2, B1, B2 = Dr. Debug Code 45, Monitor: No Signal

    2x4GB in A1, A2 = Dr. Debug Code 45, Monitor: No Signal
    2x4GB in A1, B1 = Dr. Debug Code 45, Monitor: No Signal
    2x4GB in A1, B2 = Dr. Debug Code 45, Monitor: No Signal
    2x4GB in A2, B1 = Dr. Debug Code 45, Monitor: No Signal
    2x4GB in A2, B2 = Dr. Debug Code 45, Monitor: No Signal

1x4GB in A1 = Dr. Debug Code 45, Monitor: No Signal
1x4GB in A2 = Dr. Debug Code 45, Monitor: No Signal

And finally with 2x4GB in B1 & B2 something happens.
Dr. Debug shows code 36 for 5-6 seconds, then the monitor gets a signal.
At POST, Dr. Debug shows code A3, boots up Windows and all works fine.

I've tried all the combinations with XMP 1.2 Profile on, also manually setting the frequency to 1600MHz.

Also, in the BIOS main tab it says "Single Channel Configuration".

I don't know what to do anymore, so any help will be appreciated, thank you in advance.

    - FleX

check your cpu socket for bent pins
a dead slot it almost always a bent pin

test each slot one at a time using a single stick

Well I have a similar setup (Extreme 7 Gen3 with 4x4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz but CL8 instead of CL9, bought 2 kits of 8gb instead of a single kit of 16GB) and it works well so it's most likely an hardware issue either on the motherboard itself (like the bent pin previously mentionned) or maybe the RAMs are defective. Can you test the RAM on another board? BTW, in my case it wouldn't read the right profile (always tried DDR1333 and CL9 timings) so I had to manually input those values (only freq and the 4 main timings, I left everything else to auto).

    Hope that helps a bit.

You might want to check this thread about those code 45 errors.
It seems the consensus is its motherboard related.

...If after as advised above a close inspection of the CPU for potential bent pins does not reveal any bent pins RMA the board as maybe you got a "lemon" which is more likely then bad RAM

its easy to test for bad ram sticks, just try each stick one at a time in a known working ram slot, good ram sticks will boot up pc and any bad ones wont

I have this EXACT same problem!! ASRock Z68 Extreme7 motherboard won't post if I use memory in either of the A slots but works fine if I ONLY use the B slots. I tested all 4 memory sticks (G.Skill Ripjaw 16gb DDR3 2133) in all 4 slots and in all different combinations and each one works perfectly but only if used in the B slots.

Really annoying, if anyone has any ideas please follow-up, I have my full details in a thread here: ASRock Z68 Extreme7 Memory Slot Problem Causes No Post - General-Motherboard - Motherboards-Memory

If no suggestions pop up soon I will be RMAing the motherboard (after checking tonight to see if I see any bent pins). I had no issues at all when putting the system together, CPU fit perfectly first try so if pins were bent they were that way when it arrived.
