Default Swapping motherboard without a reinstall?

I remember back in the 98, XP, and 2K days you had to do a whole new install when you changed out your motherboard. Has WIN7's rumors come true where you can swap out any part of the computer EXCEPT the HD and still have it run flawlessly while not reinstalling?

Then I got another question: Do you see AMD pulling an ole switcheroo to AM4 or w/e like they did with the AM2 and short AM2+ life span in the future? Because I am not going to want to upgrade and then 3 or so months down the road find the AM4 or w/e is the "Slice bread" of the brand. I want to be able to live a little for at least a yr or two.

I have no idea about amd, maybe someone can comment further? Atleast you get better value/customer loyalty with amd than you would with Intel
