Question 4CoreDual-SATA2 R2.0: BIOS and AHCI

Hi to @all, especially to ASROCK-Support members!

Should be an easy to answer issue:

Has my motherboard 4CoreDual-SATA2 R2.0 support for AHCI?

    BIOS V: P2.1
    SSD with TRIM

If not: Any Possibility with BIOS-Upgrade? How?...

I hate to state the obvious, but have you checked your motherboard user manual's bios section?
RTFM (Read The Flaming Manual) is usually a good thing

    Nothing to hate!
Thanks for this very fast reaction!
Sure the TF(this short key I know different )M has been read.
There are 11 lines text. Nothing about Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI).
With regard to your post I checked the DL-page at Asrock. No news at all. (.PDFs)
Now I'm checking the BIOS itself. If I find out, I'l post here.

RTFM --> I was using the polite form

Pages 31 - 33 refers to IDE mode.
Page 42 IDE mode options are non-Raid or Raid

I didn't find any reference to AHCI in the flaming manual.

Send a PM to ASRock TSD - Emily including a link to this thread and ask for her feedback.

    I'll do so.
(It seems, you has an different FM, mine has no page numbers.
Yes, the only options in the BIOS are as you mentioned.
I think, there is no compatibility to AHCI, but I ask Emily.
(And afterwards I stop this wasting of time, the Win 7 runs well on an SSD.)
    THX!

Intel recommends choosing RAID mode on their motherboards, which also enables AHCI. Eventually also ASrock works with that conf.? https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/AHCI (But I am not using RAID!)

You can select Raid mode, but only use it as a single disk raid array.
If windows is already installed, I'm pretty sure that you can't just change the mode to Raid.
You probably need to make 3 changes in the windows registry before you reboot and change the bios setting to Raid.
You can use the forum SEARCH function to find the information in the Gigabyte forum.

I think that this is the correct procedure:
If you installed in IDE mode you'll need to make the following registry changes before you change the BIOS to AHCI Vista/Win7 ONLY

Enable switching between all IDE/AHCI/RAID modes by changing "Start" Values in these keys to 0 (Win 7 / Vista ONLY)

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Msahci\Start
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Pciide\Start
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\iaStorV\Start
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
.... but you might get better performance using Raid mode.
I'd wait for Emily's confirmation before you risk borking your ssd.

It is, but I think, that the entry Pciide is not necessary. But why not, a image provided.

Question Re: 4CoreDual-SATA2 R2.0: BIOS and AHCI

As far as I know, ssd Trim is NOT supported with raid enabled.

One more question to ask Emily:
Will Trim work when Raid mode is enabled with a single ssd?
