Unhappy ASRock Z68 Gen3 "Cannot find driver for DC/DVD" issue loading Win7 x64

    Hey all,

First time poster here. Just set up my ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 mobo. I go to load Win7 x64 and the installer boots up and takes me to the Install Now screen. But then says "Cannot find CD/DVD driver, please insert disc". The BIOS sees my SATA drives (2 of them) and my optical (obviously or it wouldnt load Win7 installer).

I have inserted the DVD that came with the mobo, and also the driver disc I burned 2 days ago with updated drivers, and Win 7 says something about it not being a valid driver. Not sure what driver its looking for (possibly the SATA driver?? for the DVD drive?).

I tried having the BIOS set to IDE mode, and SATA to Compatible and Enhanced, I have also tried the AHCI mode...and no love.

Im currently trying to reinstall Win XP just to see if it will install...so far 98% thru reformatting.

Mobo posts to BIOS no problems, with all drives recognized in BIOS.

Any ideas? Maybe a bad Win7 disc?

    My config

    Intel Quad core i5 - 2500K
    8GB GSkill DDR3 1600
    Nvidia Geforce GTS 450 video
    SB X-FI Ext. Music

    Thanks in advance!!

Thanks for the quick reply. It is a ASUS SATA DVD BURNER DRW-24B1ST.

When I click on Install Now it starts the "set up" window then the "cannot find CD/DVD driver..." message appears. this seems to be a common error for folks installing from USB, but Im actually installing from the DVD drive.

It appears WinXP is loading fine btw.... I figured if WinXP loads ok, then that may be a good indicator that my Win7 disc is hosed up somehow?

I also figured worst case is I have a fresh copy of WinXp to install Win7 over (or just reformat drive). I have Win7 Home Upgrade, so I assume it will check if you have a previous copy of Windows installed before it will install.

Problem solved. Got another copy of Win7 and install went fine. So it was a hosed Win7 install disc... now what to do with the $80 coaster I bought a week ago.... sigh Next issue is it seems my Soundblaster X-FI Extreme Music is no longer supported. I go to install the driver I downloaded from Creative and Windows says "this device is not supported by this Operating System"

So how good is the onboard sound with the Z68 Extreme3 Gen3?

glad you got it going, maybe refund for defunct disc? try right clicking the driver install package and then properties/compatibility/run in xp mode,it might work then, not sure if your version of windows has that feature?

Ya...I will try and get a refund (or replacement disk...I have a second PC for the wife that I would like to load Win7 to anyway).

Very strange I check Creative's website and they have a driver for Win7 64 ... dated back in June. The driver I downloaded was released in Nov (or more recently) but in reading the description they say its for Vista 64. After working an 8hr. day then building a PC and trying to load Win7, then XP, then Win7 that worked...Im beat.

Thanks for your attempt to help Waazza... Im sure once I this system up and running I will be attempting to OC a bit (didnt get a i5-2500K for nothing) so I will be back
