Default 970 extreme3 mb / cross fire mode.

Bios is set to PCIE graphics. The manual states to connect the monitor to pcie card in slot 2. I have done this with a dvi cable and hdmi. Doing so I get no signal. If I connect to pcie card in slot 4 I get a signal and the ATI catalyst reports that crossfire is enabled. I have removed the card in slot 4 and just connected to the card in slot 2 and I get a signal. I have flip flopped the cards and connected to pcie slot 2 and still no signal. Is this a mis-print in the manual?

    Thanks in advance

    Ryan

I called asrock tech area and they told me it was ok, it was just windows that assigned slot 4 as the default. He told me I could go into the display properties "not the ati catalyst" and switch my default to slot 2 and that a second monitor is needed which is not a problem. I will try this and report back.

It sounds like for reasons unknown the schema for which card to connect to is oposite than what the manual says...at least on your system. I am running SLi and using the DVI connector from the top card (slot 1)which on my board Slots 1 & 4 are for SLi/Crossfire.

I guess if it works connected to the lower card then use that schema unless you find other problems...Remember don't fix what ain't broken

    Cheers

That answer from ASRock that you got sounds plausible if you added the 2nd card after windows was already installed with just the original 1 card......

Windows was already install. After transfering the HD to new setup I stripped/cleaned with driver sweeper all ATI /Realtek / VIA / Lan drivers and installed fresh. I will get it switched and report back any difference.

I attempted AsRock tech support suggestion by connecting my other monitor to the other card. Started up pc, monitor connected to pcie4 slot came on and the monitor connected to pcie2 slot did not. I tried to go through the display properties but could not find where it said to change my default pcie slot. I tried using the identify function but no help.
GPUZ reports 1 card x16 and other x4 Active Ulps but does not show which card is which. Only thought at this point is to do a fresh win7 install with monitor connected to pcie2 slot to see if it switches the default location........ not really wanting to do that. This all could be for nothing but something tells me I am not getting the complete benefit of crossfireX.

    Hey Ryan

Before you go thru the hassle of wiping your mechanical hard drive clean with a free utility like DBAN-using the method PRNG Stream verify all passes -roughly 6hrs with a 500GB mechanical drive (if you had an SSD then Parted Magic - internal erase method - that only takes seconds)........... try software breaking your Crossfire using the ATI Catalyst Control Panel - REBOOT- then after the boot uninstall both of your graphics cards in Win7 DEVICE MANAGER and when prompted REBOOT and when Win7 starts up and detects new devices ie both graphics cards simultaneously SEE if that corrects how they are tagged in the PCie slots as far as 1rst slot and 2nd slot and resultant IRQ's then use the Catalyst Control Panel to turn Crossfire back on and then ascertain if you are getting x16 and x16

Attempted the procedure and it did not work. It did disable crossfire all together so I had to remove drivers and reload to get crossfire mode back. Maybe if I removed the ati drivers, unistalled both cards via device mgr, shut down, physically removed the card in slot 4, reboot, install drivers, reboot, shut down, install second card in slot 4 and then see what happens. I will give it a try and report back.
