    Default ASRock AM3+ 970 Extreme 3

    Hi all,

Built a new machine with the AM3+ 970 Extreme 3 with the following:
    • AMD Phenom II x 4 925
    • 8GB GSkill Sniper 1600 low voltage DDR3 (2 x 4GB)
    • NVIDIA GeForce GT 430 GPU
    • PSU ROSEWILL RG630-S12 630W

My problem is that the RAM defaults to 1066.

In the bios it is reading the memory correctly and shows correct settings in default 1 profile.

I have done everything I know to get the memory to run at 1600 without ocing manually as I am not experienced enough at ocing.

Can anyone walk me through the ocing of the memory in the bios if this is what has to be done?

Keep in mind this is the low voltage model which is 1.25w.

The machine is running great as is but would like the memory to run at 1600.

    Thanks for any assistance.

What are you using to test RAM frequency?
If you're using CPU-Z does it show 800MHz on the Memory tab?

With my rig I had to manually set the DRAM Frequency to DDR3-1600.
Then I had to go into DRAM timing control and enter the settings - mine were shown in the BIOS as Profile 1 and I just copied the values - tCL 9, tRCD 9, etc.
My Kingston HyperX Blu requires 1.65V to run @1600 and 1.50V @1333, 1066 and 800 so I manually set the DRAM Voltage at 1.650V.

I changed for exactly the same Kingston Hyper X DDR3-1600 as Bill has got, from the default 1333 Mhz to 1600, leaving everything else on auto (my MB is the 890FXDeluxe 5 series). Then I checked the DRAM-vaues via CPU-Z for the column 800 MHZ (having the largest CAS-value of 9). It seems my BIOS recognised the proper values by themselves. If problems appear afterwards, I will just copy the CPU-Z column timing values in BIOS via a manual approach. The voltage is somethings else, raising the voltage in steps of 0,05 or 0,1 Volts until the system works OK, is one of the slower solutions. I will remember Bill's 1,65 Volts for Blue Hyper X from his contribution, if I go for the fastest solution... :-D on

Mine showed the correct SPD settings under Profile 1 after I set DRAM Frequency to DDR3-1600 with the exception of Command Rate (CR) which was shown as 0.
Unfortunately the actual timings in DRAM Timing Control were looser (higher) so I manually adjusted them to what was listed under Profile 1. Since there is no 0 setting for Command Rate (CR) I set it to 2T.

This is what was shown under Profile 1 and what I set my timings at:

    DDR3 1600
    tCL 9
    tRCD 9
    tRP 9
    tRAS 27
    CR 2T ( as mentioned I substituted 2T for 0)
    tRC 36
    tWR 12
    tRFC 128
    tRRD 5
    tWTR 6
    tRTP 6
    tFAW 24
    VDD 1.65V
