Question Cloned SATA HDD won't boot, doesn't show in bios

Hi. I'm very new to this, please excuse my ignorance. A friend gave me his home made PC running Win Xp Home Edition 2002 sp3,Intel Core Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20 GHz, 2GB RAM. It has a 300 GB Maxtor IDE HDD, which started to run hotter than I like. Using Acronis True Image Home 2010, I tried to clone the drive to a Seagate 500MB SATA Hdd, connected with a SATA cable to slot 1 in my ConRoe 1333-DVI/H mobo. Acronis said the cloning was successful, but upon removing the Maxtor and rebooting, I got the message that boot device not found, or something like that. Went into bios and the drive doesn't show. I read somewhere about WinXp not having the right drivers in the bios? Or, that I should just use a IDE - SATA adapter. Is there an uncomplicated way for a novice to correct this booting problem? I live in fear of messing up my MBR, I did that on another machine, and bye-bye, everything. I would like to have both drives available for backing up purposes and still have my DVD ( IDE ) drive funtioning. Thank you for your help, Beauzeaux1

try and save your data from the original machine not cloning as maybe your drive is burning out . windows xp doesn't like new hardware changes unlike w7 so save your data and upgrade windows then try windows file transfer

Thank you for your reply, but that isn't what I'm trying to do. All my data is already copied on a external drive, but I want to use the SATA drive without all the trouble of a new install of everything.

It might be normal that your sata drive doesn't appear in the bios.
Check your motherboard user manual to see what bios options deal with IDE and sata drives.
You might be able to repair the XP sata hard drive using the repair option when you boot from the XP installation DVD.
The following web searches should provide helpful information:

Thank you, I'll try your suggestions tonight if I get a chance. Somehow I have to get the SATA drivers into my bios, I guess.

With both of my Gigabyte LGA775 boards, no sata drives are listed in my bios.
When booting, all of my sata drives are listed when watching the detailed posting messages, when displaying the default boot logo screen is disabled.

Oh boy, now I know I don't know what I'm doing. I've ordered a IDE to SATA two-way adapter for $10 and I'll try that when it comes. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my post.

The "boot device not found" error message can possibly be fixed by using the XP DVD repair feature.
I'm not familiar with your motherboard, but there might be a problem related to AHCI mode settings in your bios and some settings in the windows registry.
I haven't used XP, I went from win2k to win7 where I did a fresh win7 installation on a boot only ssd and all of my other files are on my sata hard drives.
