Cool Re: Device Manager - Unknown Device after MB drivers install

Ho hum.....is that the best you can do with your V4 raid setup?

Guess I'll just hafta wait until my Samy 840 Pro raid setup is running in my Haswell system.

Actually, that is the final result, as it searched for updates and found none, since I just did one...

When you install IME, it puts two entries in the Windows Scheduled Tasks service list. I noticed those entries in previous Win 7 installations I did on another Z77 board, and disabled them, since I know better... not really.

So what does this tell us? It seems Intel is... nervous, tense, worried, about updating this "firmware" (so it's not a driver or software, but firmware... I told you it defies categorization, or is that merely obfuscation) for some reason. Very interesting, and mysterious...

    Big Brother is... updating?
So parsec you couldn't resist! Glad you're the guinea pig. If this has you baffled/concerned imagine what a noobie like me would be like? Actually, I don't know enough to know when to be afraid. Be very, very afraid! I think I'll wait until you say it's worth me updating it or not.

Nah, that was just an Ok benchmark I had handy, I've done better.

What I am proud of is the following, which took endless tweaking to obtain, my ultimate HDD benchmark:

Device Manager - Unknown Device after MB drivers install-ssd-seagate-barracuda-mbs-3-18-2012-png

If you've ever wondered how a HDD performs compared to a SSD, here is a great example. That is a 7200 RPM HDD, virtually empty when tested, so using the fastest areas of the HDD. It's a SATA II HDD on an Intel SATA II controller. Notice that the sequential speeds do not exceed the real world SATA I speeds. The rest is self explanatory. Laptop and "green" HDDs are even slower than that. Try running that benchmark on a so called SATA 6Gb/s HDD, on a SATA III controller, and see what you get. Virtually no difference. The Raptor HDDs are a bit better of course, at 10,000 RPM, but not in SSD territory. And people complain about SSD performance?

BTW, we are WAY OFF TOPIC... no comments about the IME... mysteryware?

Oh jeez, and I was trying to stop FUD! Not to worry, that PC is fine, I'm using it right now and I don't notice anything different.

And I can kill my own brain cells, thank you...

Oh and thanks for a picture of yourself Jim, you've changed since your profile picture...

Mr. parsec, I just installed HWiNFO64 as a temperature monitoring tool for use when I run some stress tests. I happened to notice a "parsec" on the forums there. Would that be one and same as the one I am now communicating with? If so, what is your opinion of this program? I've just taken a quick look and it seems to have pretty extensive information on the entire system. Would you recommend it for use while stress testing? I plan to dip my toes into the arcane waters of over clocking for the first time and know that stress testing is a integral aspect of OCing.

This will be my first foray into the world of stress testing. Seems like a good idea to me; pay a lot of money for a new CPU and then try to kill it. My plan is to run the Intel Burn Test and am looking for advice on whether I should also run Prime95. IBT seems to be safer for someone of my limited experience to use.

If you must use IBT or LinX, limit each test to no more than 5 - 10 loops using at least 2 - 4GB of memory.
Prime95 will often generate errors when IBT and/or LinX run error free.
    just my 2 cents
