We're so far OT now one more post by me won't matter I guess.

When in doubt, RTFM for the 970 Extreme3, I just did. Looky here what's inside(p34 of the online 970 Extreme3 manual):
STEP 2: Make a SATA3 Driver Diskette. (Please use USB floppy or floppy disk.)
    A. Insert the ASRock Support CD into your optical drive to boot your system.
    B. During POST at the beginning of system boot-up, press <F11> key, and
then a window for boot devices selection appears. Please select CD-ROM as
     the boot device.
    C. When you see the message on the screen, “Generate Serial ATA driver diskette
     [YN]?”, press <Y>.
    D. Then you will see these messages,
Please insert a diskette into the floppy drive.
WARNING! Formatting the floppy diskette will
     lose ALL data in it!
Start to format and copy files [YN]?
Please insert a floppy diskette into the floppy drive, and press any key.
    E. The system will start to format the floppy diskette and copy SATA3 drivers into
     the floppy diskette.
#1 - Please, when seeking help, enter the make and model of ALL parts that your system is comprised of in your Signature, or at least the model #'s in your System Specs, then "Save' it.
____If you are overclocking, underclocking, or undervolting any parts, informing us of this and their values would prove beneficial in helping you.

#2 - Consider your PSU to be the foundation from which all else is built upon. Anything built upon a weak foundation is poorly built.

    Dear BigDaveRS,

Please set "1st Boot Device" as your system disk under BIOS.

The message is caused by system boot from your ODD directly.

After installing all drivers, you can take out the support disk.

    Thank you very much!

    Have a nice day
