Avast is good, and Windows Security Essentials is decent too.

I hate Norton, it owns your PC IMO, always in your face showing you it's earning its keep, when not necessary. Plus try to remove it, like removing gum from hair.

As I have never used Norton I am not familiar with it at all. And yes, I too have read the horror stories pertaining to Norton 360. Hence why I suggested what I did there ie: disable it and retest.

Didn't mean to sound like I was saying you were wrong, just kinda of clarifying why I said what I did. Sorry, didn't mean to sound rude.

I have read some people also having problems with this lan and avast.

What the poster should do is actually uninstall any anti-virus, any anti- malware soft.

uninstall the driver,( not sure if this is just a driver or like a app with soft for the lan) but I would uninstall the driver, then actually the lan itself in devise MGR.

Now after a reboot, windows should pick it up and install the generic driver for the hardware, I would run a test on this, then install norton and see.

The thing with the antivirus is you will find fanboys for each company. Personally I dislike Avast, and really enjoy AVG. Also it was rated on cnet (if I remember correctly) as the best free antivirus.

I also highly recommend running Malwarebytes.

Is there a free version of Kaspersky?

Also heard great things about ESET.

Not that I'm aware. Only trial versions that expire, in like 30 days IIRC.

Kaspersky is not mainstream and popular, therefore it is actually very good. Seriously!
