Default New ASROCK z68 pro3-m board bios too old to boot cpu

Hi I just bought a new asrock board and a i7 3440 cpu but it fails to boot. The bios is really old (p1.20) I need p2.10, according to the cpu compatible list which I checked before purchase.

Don't have an old cpu to boot it with to update. I need asrock to mail me out a programmed chip, but never heard back from support. I m UK based.

What other options do I have?

    ebay.co.uk has a few listed.

Local computer shop that has a 1.20 compatible processor to up-flash to 2.10.

Probably cheaper to go the ebay route assuming a reputable Seller.

ASRock is sometimes slow to answer.

Check which processors are supports with your BIOS version and ask a friend, colleague or relative for his processor?

The list of CPU's on a BIOS this old is quite short. Will it boot ANY sandybridge CPU, even if it's CPUID is unknown?

Send a private message (PM) to ASRock TSD - Emily, explain your problem and that you would like ASRock to send you a free pre-flashed bios chip so that you can boot with your current cpu. She will need a shipping address so it's best if you handle this by PM rather than posting private information in this thread. I've seen several threads in this forum where ASRock sent a bios chip for free under some circumstances.

Let us know if this works.
    Good luck.

Thumbs up Re: New ASROCK z68 pro3-m board bios too old to boot cpu

I recently faced the exact same problem when fitting 3770k. My answer was to order a brand new pre-programmed bios chip from ebay as didn't want to wait. I am a total newbie and was able to remove the old chip and insert the new one with just a pair of tweezers with the ends bent over (don't bother with getting the extractors). Think sellers name is zeanon' it cost about a tenner and was delivered within 48 hours. I spoke to the chap on the phone and he was really helpful. I had no problems whatsover' it was plain sailing with install :-)
