    Unhappy 3TB hard drive issue

    Hi all.
I cannot get windows to recognise my 3TB hard drive.
In my previous board Windows had no issues recognising it.
Since I installed the ASROCK 970 Extreme3 board, I cannot see my 3TB hard drive in windows 8x64.

I have installed the ASRock ‘3TB+ Unlocker’.

BIOS is v1.70, which is the most recent
Enabling SMART allowed the board to see it in the BIOS.
But it is not detected in DiskManagement tool, so I cannot add it to Windows.

I have tried installing the all in one drivers for the 970 Extreme3 board, but that only installs the Catalyst Install Manager.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thx.

This 3TB drive (what brand) is not being used as your system drive?
You are not trying to install Windows onto it?
You have an existing OS that you are running (which)?

See if anything here may also apply to you, ASRock P67 Fatality Motherboard SATA Driver issues during Win 7 x64 install?
(If you do a DISKPART -> CLEAN, be CERTAIN you perform it on the correct disk. I don't even understand why it was necessary in that case?)

No, its not being used as the system drive. Its just a storage drive. I'm not going to install an OS on it.
Im running Windows 8 x64 Pro.
    Will check the link.
    Thx

    Hello.
Diskpart does not see the hard drive...
But I dont want to wipe it anyway as it already has data on it that I want to keep....

Can anyone help me with this?
I have a 3TB hard drive that the motherboard can see, but windows is not recognising it...
I have installed the unlocker utility, but that does nothing.

Is there somewhere I can open a message directly to ASROCK?

The 3TB Unlocker program is not listed for use with Windows 8 64bit, and should be uninstalled.

What SATA mode was used for your OS installation, AHCI, or something else? What SATA driver is installed?

I would try putting that HDD on another PC, hopefully with Windows 7, to check its function. On the other PC, run diskpart, select that disk and run "list partition" on it. If the disk has a System partition on it, which would be from an earlier OS installation, that might be causing the problem. Delete the System partition if it is there.

Next, is that disk formatted as MBR or GPT? Disks over 2.2TB must be formatted as GPT in order for Windows to recognize all the disk's space. Diskpart has a convert command to change from MBR to GPT format, but it will erase everything from the disk when performing the conversion, so it would need to be backed up before a conversion is done.

    Dear theKramer,

Please tell me the detailed model name of your 3TB HDD and the BIOS settings.
I'll help to test this issue.

    Thanks!

    Have a nice day
