    Angry Z77 Extrene6 - Asmedia sata 3 drivers Crashed with windows 8

Each time I have installed windows 8 and Asmedia sata 3 driver, it crashed my system. I am using two SSDs in the SATA A0,A1n, should I change it to the SATA 3_0 & 1? Is the SATA 3 asmedia port much 'inferior' than the intel one?

    Welcome to the forum.
From what I've seen, the Intel sata3 ports always provide the best performance and stability.

You might need to find newer ASMedia win8 drivers to download.

It is the newest edition that I downloaded from the Asrock web site. My version is 1.3.8.

There might be a newer win8 version from ASMedia or from another source on the web, such as:
Asmedia ASM 106x SATA Controller Sata6G Driver
    Version 1.3.9.000 Pour Windows Xp/Vista/7/8 32/64bits -- drivers -- 05/02/13
from ASMEDIA drivers & firmwares in the middle of the page.

Just below the drivers, they have:
Asmedia ASM 106x SATA 6G Controller Firmware
    Version N0951 (Ide/Ahci) -- firmware -- 17/04/13
    Version N095 (Ide/Ahci) -- firmware -- 14/04/12

Use of either or both of these is at your own risk.

First, use the Intel SATA III ports, they are far superior to the ASMedia ports. Plus two drives on the ASMedia ports will make them even slower. The Intel SATA III interface is the fastest there is, superior to AMD's (in second place), and much better than Marvell or ASMedia SATA chips.

Next, there is no point in using the ASMedia driver with Windows 8, at least during a Windows installation. Windows 8 (and earlier versions of Windows) have a native AHCI driver, the new one in Windows 8 is storahci. That will install automatically when no driver is used for either the Intel or ASMedia chips.

Finally, if you are installing the ASMedia driver from your boards download page during the Windows 8 installation, that is not the correct driver for that purpose. Drivers used for that purpose are labeled "F6...", and you'll see that an ASMedia F6 driver is not available.
