Default 775i65G R3.0 compatible apg list

    Dear Sirs,

I am using a 775i65G R3.0 and I am unable to see a list of compatible APG's. I am currently using a ASUS n6800 512MB, but windows shows it at 3.1 level, which I consider to be quite low.

I have tried to search on here for compatible APG list but unable to see such. Please can someone let me know the above.

Thanks in advance for any input.

    Regards, Jonathan

    Welcome to the forum.
Are you looking for a list of compatible AGP video cards?

    ASRock > 775i65G R3.0 Specifications lists: 1 x AGP slot for 1.5V 8X/4X AGP card

In your motherboard user manual, it says:
    Expansion Slot
    - 3 x PCI slots
    - 1 x AGP slot for 1.5V 8X/4X AGP card (see CAUTION 6)

    CAUTION!
    1. FSB1066-CPU is supported only when you install AGP VGA card into AGP
slot. Besides, if you use a FSB1066-CPU on this motherboard, please
    adopt a DDR400 CL2.5 memory module.

    6. Do NOT use a 3.3V AGP card on the AGP slot of this motherboard!
    It may cause permanent damage!

    Dear ProfJim,

Thank you for your reply, so does that mean I can buy ANY AGP on the market as long, as I keep to 1.5V 8X/4X card?

I say 'any' above because the AsRock's website R1.0 and I think R2.0 of my motherboard, provided a list of compatible GPU's and AGP's.

    Clarification would be appreciated, Jonathan

    You're welcome.
You should be fine with any mainstream AGP video card that meets ASRock's 1.5V 8X/4X requirement.
It's probably best to avoid very high end professional or workstation AGP video cards.
I won't try to guess why ASRock didn't create a supported video card list for your newer motherboard version.
Apparently they felt that any AGP card that would meet their requirement is safe and should work OK.

Accelerated Graphics Port - Wikipedia has a lot of information that covers specifications, compatibility and version information.

    Dear ProfJim,

Thank you for your reply again :-), if you were me what top three graphics cards would you recommend (please state in order 1st, 2nd, and 3rd)?

Also, I thought my Nivdia GeForce 6800 512mb would have been a good one but Windows 7, says otherwise.... Or is it that I have not optimised it correctly?

With thanks and kind regards, Jonathan

Which Nvidia driver version did you install?
How is win7 complaining? Include specific details.
Does win7's device manager show any errors for your video card? If yes, what is the error code.

Go to Drivers | GeForce and click on Auto-Detect Your GPU and note which driver version it recommends. If this version is different from the one you are running, download the recommended version and do a clean install so that your current driver version is replaced.

I can't recommend which video card model might be best.
We don't know what your video needs are, such as light/moderate/heavy gaming, and we don't know the full details of your hardware setup. My personal experience with AGP video cards was a long time ago where I used FX5xxx cards for everyday use.

    Dear Sirs,

Thank you for your input and support, I have today received from AsRock Technical Services, in which they advise ANY 4x/8x APG will work.

Although I have a definite answer from AsRock, I would still be keen to establish the best mid/high APG I should go for (as previously asked), what top three graphics cards would be recommend (please state in order 1st, 2nd, and 3rd).

ProfJim asked me for my PC specs, they are as follows:
    Product Type: Problem Type: VGA
    Model Name: 775i65G R3.0 BIOS Version: 1.0
Purchase Date: 2013/05/20 Serial Number: 29M0XD033193
    »Configuration
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66Ghz Memory: 2x 1GB PC3200
Video Card: Nivdia 6800 512mb,AGP HDD: Weston Digital 1TB,SATA
    CD-ROM: DVD RW+/-,IDE OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Other Devices: Multi SD Card Reader, Creative Labs Pro PCI card, USB 2.0 x4 and e-sata x1 PCI card, Ready Boost USB, 1x Floppy Drive, PowerCool 750w PSU

Here are some suggestions from 2007: TOP 5 AGP CARDS - Graphics Cards - Graphics & Displays
Here are 2 lists for AGP and PCI video cards that are currently available on my side of the pond:
    Newegg.com - Desktop Graphics Cards, AGP 4X/8X
Newegg.com - Desktop Graphics Cards, PCI

Check Tom's Hardware for older video card heirarchy lists that rank cards by overall performance.
In Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart - Best Graphics Cards For The Money: May 2013, I found:
    Discrete: 6800 GS (AGP)
    Go (mobile): 6800 Ultra, 7600 GT, 8600M GT, 8700M GT, 410M
near the middle of the page. I don't know if this meas that the 6800 GS (Ultra) card is the best (and only) AGP card.
I think that you need to avoid Quadro models as these might only work with a workstaion motherboard models.

You might find that some PCI cards might have better performance than AGP cards.
I didn't check the AGP list for 1.5 volt versus 3.3 volt models and I don't know how well your motherboard will perform with a high end PCI video card.
You will need to read old video card reviews to see which card will offer the best performance.

Attached are my P35 WEI scores with an EVGA 7600GT pci-e video card.

    Dear ProfJim,

Will a PCI or PCIe graphics card work on my motherboard? Or, is it strictly VGA ONLY?
