    Default Asrock 970 Pro3 R2.0 + FX6300 = unstable/freezes

    Hi Guys,
my System freezes/Bsod or restarts randomly every 1-40 Minutes.
Prime95 shows up a lot of errors and Hardware Failures.
Ive changed/updated all Drivers but nothing happend.
In safe mode the System seems to be stable.

    My System:
    Asrock 970 Pro3 R2.0 (P1.30)
    FX 6300
    HD 7790
    2x GeIL DIMM 4 GB DDR3-1333 DragonRam (@1.5V 9-9-24 2T)

OK, I'll give it a stab, since I had the experience of an unstable FX-8350 set up until I figured out some things with memory, motherboards, bios settings, etc.

First thing is first. Make sure you have all the bios settings set to default/auto settings before you try any overclocking/tweaking. This is so you can verify that all your parts are functional first (ie. no defective ram/motherboard/etc.) What kind of HSF (heatsink/fan) are you using? The stock AMD one that came with your FX-6300? Also, what about your case and power supply? Is the power supply adequate wattage? For the system specs you have mentioned, you're going to want at least a decent 500w power supply. Now, assuming the power supply is adequate/not defective, I'd test the ram first. Download this: Memtest86 Free Download and burn a cd or create a bootable USB drive to run it (you have to boot your computer into it--can't run it from Windows). This will definitively tell you if you have memory issues. This was the tool that clued me in to my stability problems when I was swapping in and out motherboards with my FX-8350. Turns out that there are many types of ram which are incompatible with AM3+ motherboards. I went through about 4 pairs of Corsair and Patriot memory until I finally ran memtest 86 on the 4th Corsair ram and concluded that it was either defective or incompatible. I recommend G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1600 or 1866 ram for AMD systems.

Also, for goodness sake, don't use Prime95 as the stability testing program. It's notoriously unreliable with FX processors. I'm not going to go into all the details, but a quick Google search will validate what I'm saying. Use a program like Intel's Burn Test (available here: IntelBurnTest Free Download)

Well, I hope these things have given you something to work on to find the cause of your stablity issues. Good luck! Once you get your FX-6300 running, it's a pretty damned good CPU.
