Default Kingston KVR1333D3N9/2G not working with ASRock G41C-VS motherboard

    Hi guys,

I am not able to boot up my system with Kingston KVR1333D3N9/2G RAM on my ASRock G41C-VS motherboard. I bought 2x2GB ram and tried each one individually but once i switch on power, the cpu and gps fans start but there is no signal to monitor. It just goes to powersave mode and not even bios startup is coming up on monitor.

Is there a ram compatibility issue or am i missing something. I tried clearing CMOS plus FSB speeds through jumpers on motherboard. But it doesn't seem to work. Does this RAM have compatibility issues?

Here is the datasheet of this ram: http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/kvr1333d3n9_2g.pdf

Is it not working because it is high density ram?

There are very few memory types that support 1333 speeds in the memory QVL for your board:

    http://www.asrock.com/mb/memory/G41C-VS.pdf

Your new Kingston memory is not listed in the QVL, so the chances that it will work are just that, a chance.

Your board accepts both DDR2 and DDR3 memory, is there a jumper you must move to allow DDR3 memory to function?

Thanks for reply. Ya the qvl doesn't have much entries but I've already installed two different corsair rams which are not in qvl! Asrock people maybe lazy to test all vendors. The qvl list is insane with barely few entries for 1333 ram.
There are separate ram slots for ddr2 and ddr3 which are color coded so no confusion there. The jumper settings are only to modify fsb which I already tried for both 1333 and 1066 fsb. Its not booting for any fsb jumper config. The older ram which is also 1333 just works fine for any jumper setting.

It may be laziness, but also lack of interest for an older platform.

The last BIOS update is almost three years old. The last three BIOS updates are "patches" for DDR3 memory models. The last mother board driver updates are approaching four years old.

I would suggest contacting ASRock support directly for help with this board.

Thanks a ton. That means an older bios is the issue? I'll contact ASRock directly. Maybe they think its not worth it updating the bios of an older socket. But i have a Intel core 2 quad q9400 on this mobo and it has awesome features.

But what to do with this RAM i already purchased. There are forums online discussing how most high-density rams are only 10% compatible with all boards in market. But the kingston website says this is compatible with B75 motherboard with 1155 socket which is my next buy. Maybe will try with that.

P.S: Here is a short article on low density vs high density RAM Myth: Low Density vs High Density memory modules | eBay
Kingston data sheet says this RAM follows all JEDEC guidelines, but its not totally compatible with all boards either. And have a look at this nice review

    From the memory datasheet, VDDQ = 1.5V (1.425V ~ 1.575V).
You might need to set memory voltage to 1.60 volts or higher for your memory to work.
Getting DDR3 memory to work with older P3x or P4x compatible motherboards is often difficult, even with lower memory speeds.
The G-series motherboards are probably more difficult to work with.

I checked the G.Skill web site to see if their memory configurator would list compatible ddr3 memory kits but there were no options to search for motherboards similar to yours. You might be able find some ddr3 memory kits that other memory manufacturers offer that they have tested with your motherboard.

    From Asrock G41C-VS manual:

"If you adopt FSB1333-CPU and DDR3 1333 memory module on this motherboard, you need to adjust the jumper. Please short pin2, pin3 for FSB1 jumper. Otherwise, the CPU and memory module may not work properly on this motherboard. Please refer to below jumper setting"

The FSB 1 jumper is near the cmos battery, it should be a clear label there with jumper socket in between those two white PCIE and PCI slot.
