    Default Raid 1 990FX Extreme3

I have a 990FX Extreme 3 mobo. I want to buy two 1TB drives and do a RAID 1. I will use a image from a HDD that crapped out on me after the RAID is setup. I've never done a RAID before...how complicated will this be.

A better question would be...What is the process for setting up a Raid 1? Is it done in the BIOS or Windows 7? I'm getting Amazon.com: Seagate Barracuda 1 TB HDD SATA 6 Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive ST1000DM003: Electronics. The drives are able to be set up for a Raid.

If I wanted to set up a raid array, the first thing I would do is a web search using amd raid setup to learn the basics. This way I would better understand what the experts are suggesting. RAID - Wikipedia also has excellent information. Don't get hung up on all of the details, just try to get a good grasp of the basics.
    Also check out http://www2.ati.com/relnotes/AMD_RAI..._User_v2.1.pdf.

My personal preference is to have remote or external hard drives for my important files rather than using a mirrored raid configuration. This way if something catastrophic happens to my system, I have multiple sources of all of my files. Even if you use a mirrored raid setup, you still need one or more additional backups using a safe and secure website and/or external drives.

I agree with you Jim. I've been researching what is best and have decided to get one drive and do regular backups. Thanks for the advice.

    You're welcome.

To better protect my systems, I have several uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units that further protect all of the hardware connected to my systems.

One Murphy's law states that whatever can go wrong will, at the most inconvenient time and in the worst possible way.

It's up to each person to decide which backup approach will work best for them.

This is one of my favorite books:

Arthur Bloch has authored several different Murphy's Law books over the years, check it out.
