    Default IBT and Windows 8.1?

I had my Z77 OC Formula/3770K stable @4.5GHz. It ran IBT 10 passes and never failed. It ran Prime 95 for hours and never failed. I upgraded the system to from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and immediately started having problems running IBT. It would run 10 passes ok the first time but if I came back and ran it a second time it would sometimes fail at the very end of the 10th pass. I set all the Bios Options to the Optimized Defaults and got the same results! IBT would fail sometimes at the end of the 10th pass the second time I ran it. The problem seems to go away if I increase the Load-Leveling from 3-2 which throws a lot more juice to the CPU and of course increases the Max Core Temps. There are no WHEA errors in the Event Log. I have attached a screen shot of the IBT Error when the BIOS was set to the Optimized Defaults with the exception of the Memory set to Profile 1 (2400-10). I will go back to W8 or W7 and see if the problem goes away but I was curious if anybody else has had a similar problem? Or...is my CPU suddenly getting tired!

Default Re: IBT and Windows 8.1?

It looks like when I upgraded to Windows 8.1 the "Run as Administrator" check box in the desktop Icon got unchecked OR more likely Windows 8.1 does something different that causes IBT to fail "sometimes" if it is not Run as an Administrator. Anyway, if I check the "Run as Administrator" box under Advanced tab IBT runs with the old proven Bios settings and does not generate the Critical Error message. Seems a little strange since I am logged onto the machine as the Administrator and it appeared if I gave the system more power it did not give me the Critical Error message!
