Default Can't flash bios!? ASRock Extreme6/GB

    Hey there,

I have ASRock Extreme6/GB motherboard and a 3930K CPU but I can't update the BIOS! I currently am sitting on the P2.40 bios (It's a Extreme6 version and not extreme6/GB but i don't know why...) and my windows is very unstable. It gives me BSOD way too often and i might have to replace the MB if this continues. I've tried everything: different usb sticks, different bios versions, everything and no good. All I get is the screen below and it won't go anywhere from there!

    Can you help me?

    Your post is confusing.

On the board itself, between the PCIe slots, what model is silkscreened there? X79 Extreme6/GB ? Or X79 Extreme6?

X79 Extreme6. But somehow I have the GB soundcard. Anyway, the problem is I can't update my BIOS, instant flash is stuck on that screen.

OK, Extreme6. Click on that line that is displaying the X79E6_3.00 as shown in the pic above and Instant Flash should take off and run.

That would be really dumb of me if it did work! xD But I tried it every single time and nothing happened. Can't even close the window... It simply gets stuck on there even though i can move the mouse around! I even clicked on it and left it for 10/15 mins and nothing.

Using a USB stick to flash with? If so it must formatted any flavor of FAT and the BIOS file must reside on the root of the drive.

It also seems to help if the stick is of a smaller size, like 4-8GB. Larger ones and I've seen issues.

It's a 8GB USB Stick formatted with FAT32 and with the bios on the root of the drive. I've done all that troubleshooting before and nothing. Might have to replace the mobo after all.

Hmm, you're using the 2.40 BIOS, which is the SB-E to IVB-E processor compatible BIOS update. What CPU are you using?

The update to BIOS 2.40 is a bit tricky, and the procedure is a little different but critical to do correctly. My sticky about the procedure can be found here:

    http://forums.tweaktown.com/asrock/5...er-boards.html

The main thing to know when doing that BIOS update is this:

    Can't flash bios!? ASRock Extreme6/GB-asr-6-series-bios-update-warning-jpg

Your BSOD issues might be caused by not performing the BIOS update correctly. Also, did you update the Intel IME software and the other files that are listed in the 2.40 BIOS update description?

If you think the 2.40 update was not done correctly, I strongly suggest you flash 2.40 again, and do not remove the flash drive until Windows completely reboots. Otherwise the IME firmware will not be updated.
