Default Formula O.C. Z77 - VRM cooling question - the caps on the WB.

The VRM on the O.C. Z77 has caps on the ends of the waterblock. If using air cooling should these be off or on. I would imagine off. A simple question that I have not seen an answer to.

    thx

I doubt it makes much difference if any, but I would take the caps off if not using water cooling. A small amount of air might be moved through the pipe given strong air flow in the area of the ends of the pipe, but would that make any difference in the VRM temperatures?

The only down side to removing the caps I can think of is dust or whatever could get inside the pipe, and if you later change to water cooling, that would then be mixed with the coolant and potentially get stuck in the fins of the CPU water block or in the pump.
