    Default Asrock 939 cpu board + K8Upgrade-1689

    Hi,

    Q1:
I wonder if I can use my memory modules on my motherboard K8Upgrade-1689 plus the memory installed on the 939 cpu board upgrade?
Which means that I could have 2Go (on my K8Upgrade) + 4Go (maximum) on the new 939cpu board installed in the yellow plug?

    Q2:
There is a 12 volts on the 939 cpu board, do you know if I should plug the 12 volts on my K8Upgrade + the 12 volts on the 939cpu board twice?

    Thank-you for your help!

    Richtho.

A1. I highly doubt that. Memory on the "ASRock 939CPU Board" will only be seen/usable I'm guessing. 99.999999999% sure.

A2. Again guessing, I would assume you would only need to power the 939CPU Board, once installed. As the MB's 4pin would now prove redundant with the upgrade card installed.

ASRock "939CPU Board" specs and User Manual can be found HERE.

Don't forget to change the jumpers on the K8Upgrade-1689 board itself before inserting the upgrade card.

Thank-you for your very quick reply!

I have read the user manual before about the 939cpu board but anything talking about memory management in this, and power supply.

    Good day!

    Q3:
Do you know if I could use my old AMD 64 cpu fan 3700+ socket 754, with my new Opteron 185 socket 939?

No problem. Sorry for the loose answers. They were made on my years of experience with computers. Still, I stand behind them even w/o knowing this HW personally..

A3. The 754 and 939 HS/F's are compatible/interchangeable. You could always dry fit(ie: sans thermal interface material) fasten that 754 HS/F over the cpu and check fitment/interference while pressing slowly down into the yellow slot.

    I've run many Opty 185's. They're hot running sob's.

And what do you think about using an Opteron 185 (server processor) with the 939cpu board which tested only with an Opteron 175?
I read on internet that the 185 Opteron seems like the Athlon 64FX-60, the chip is the same, so it could be elligible to use the 185 with the 939cpu board?

    Thank-you.

If you're saying the CPUBoard is only been tested to accept up to a 175, I wouldn't personally chance running a 185 on it. Where did you read that?

Yes, with a few minor iotas, for all intents and purposes the desktop FX-60 is comparable to the server 185.

    Ok,
    I will follow your advice,

Do you know if I need to reinstall Windows XP when switching from (K8Upgrade-1689 + AMD 3700+) to (939cpu board with Opteron 175)?

    It is all for today!

again thank-you for your time and advice.

I don't see any special drivers req'd on the MB or 939CPU cards page or instructions so I'll say no, other than getting the jumpers right on the MB to support the card you should be golden.
