The size/capacity of a SSD, or really any storage drive, does not make any difference in compatibility with the 980DE mother board, or any mother board.

Why are you asking about this?

I understand, that is not really true but one small part of it is.

The Samsung SSD Magician software only is not compatible with AMD SATA chips when the AMD SATA AHCI or RAID driver is used. If the standard Windows AHCI driver is used with the AMD SATA chip, the Magician software works fine.

The Magician software also does not recognize RAID mode, and tells you that you are not in AHCI mode, which is actually false.

The Magician software is NOT required for use with Samsung SSDs, it is nice to use to set up some things that are better for SSDs, but all of those things can be done by the user in Windows.

The Samsung 840 EVO (120GB) and the Samsung 840 Pro (128GB) work fine with any AMD board, but the Samsung Magician software won't work with either of these SSDs (of any size, not just 120GB or 128GB) when the AMD SATA drivers are used.

Again, this has nothing to do with the SSDs, it is only an issue with the Magician software and the AMD SATA drivers.
