    Default Asrock g41c-vs

    Hello,

I have a PC with ASRock g41c-vs, and fail to set my BIOS to AHCI for SSD Samsung 840 evo - that requires it. Basically I have not the option settings for AHCI. How can I install this SSD for the operating system to recognize. I have the latest BIOS update for 1.40. Thank you for your help.

It looks like your I/O controller (ICH7) doesn't support AHCI:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I/O_Controller_Hub#ICH7

This is something that needs to be supported at the hardware level by the controller in order to function from what it sounds like, so you may need to either get another drive or possibly connect this drive to your system via a USB adapter.

After reading about AHCI on Samsung drives, it doesn't look like AHCI is required for these drives to function. So even though your system can't support AHCI you should still be able to install the drive and it should work in IDE emulation mode. See the following overview of Samsung drives/features:

The base ICH7 does not support AHCI or RAID mode, and you don't have a setting for AHCI in the BIOS, correct?

As vuldin said, your Samsung SSD should be able to work on your board in IDE mode. Have you tried it yet? The Samsung Magician software will complain that you are not in AHCI mode, but it still should work.

Thank you very much for your answers; operating system does not see the SSD, but I reinstalled the OS on SSD - which was recognized by the BIOS, and so now I can use the driver. That was really the goal, to use SSD for OS. I think it does not work at full capacity, but the difference is visible

Your ssd will be limited by the sata2 bandwidth on your system.

The attached benchmark shows the AS SSD benchmark on my P35 system using AHCI.

I have set up my ssd in this test with an 80GB o/s partition and the remaining unallocated space is for over provisioning.

    I currently have a 100GB o/s partition.
