Question ASRock X79 Extreme6: How to downgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 7 HP?

I built a new PC approximately 6 months ago. However, after installing the Windows 7 OEM Home Premium, I realized that it did not support up to 32 gbs of RAM.
So a friend of mine in college installed Windows 8.1. After using it for a while, I realized that I've been getting tons of BSOD errors. Additionally, I've been getting notifications that my Windows will expire in about a month?

I wish to downgrade my PC back to the original Windows 7 with the OEM Disc that I purchased and just start from scratch
(get rid of everything on my desktop)
I have already moved the files that I needed onto a seperate USB stick.

I was wondering how I could go about this process, because my BIOS is weird as in: it does not let me change the priority boot to CD/DVD.
    Can someone please help me?

    Thank you!

    Welcome to the forum.

Have you checked with your motherboard user manual to see if there is a designated PF-key to press for selecting the boot drive while booting?

Can you enter the bios to temporarily select or change the boot drive settings.

When installing windows, you should not have secondary hard drives or ssd's connected to your system.

We need detailed information about ALL OF THE HARDWARE in your system.

We can best help you after you create a detailed hardware list in the System Specs
portion of your forum profile at the bottom of the profile page or in your forum signature.
Be sure to include brand names and model numbers.
When you are done editing or creating your hardware list, save the settings.

    You're welcome.

Check out page 93 in your motherboard user manual:

    3.6 Boot Screen
In this section, it will display the available devices on your system
for you to configure the boot settings and the boot priority.

Your main problem is apparently the boot order situation with your optical drive. The Windows 8.1 version you had sounds like a free trial version, or a copy of 8.1 he had without a valid product key. The BSODs you apparently had could simply be driver problems that could be fixed with the correct versions, since your board supports Windows 8.1.

So you are sure your optical drive is not listed in any of the Boot Option #1 or #2 lists? Does the optical drive work otherwise, can you put a disk in it and it reads it?

In the BIOS, if you go to the Advanced screen, and then Storage Configuration, is the optical drive listed? Your board has two SATA controllers, the native Intel and an add on ASMedia. An optical drive should be connected to the Intel SATA ports, you can check that in the Storage Configuration screen.

Your friend may have set a certain BIOS option when he installed Windows 8.1 that may be causing the optical drive to not be listed. In the BIOS, in the Security screen, check if an option called Secure Boot is enabled. If it is enabled, set it to disabled, save and exit the BIOS, and then go right back into the BIOS and check the boot order again.
