    Smile DDR3 1066 Ram (2Gb or 4Gb) with AsRock - 970 Pro3 R2.0

    Hi All,
I Have brought an "AsRock - 970 Pro3 R2.0" Motherboard, to build a new System, & I realise that Ram can be tricky.
Has anyone had some experience with 2Gb or 4 Gb Matched DDR3 1066 or 1333 Ram with this Motherboard?
I am looking for Ram that is currently still readily available (2014), & at a reasonable price still?

Any guides in the right dirrection, would be appreciated.

The CPU I have is a Phemon ll X2 555 Black Edition.

Thanks electric bill for your quick response to my question.. I am taking note of the Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB Ram you are using in your Rig, with your 970 Extreme 3. It is the 970 Chip Set in mine & your own Motherboard, that dictates the Ram you can use, isn't it to your knowledge? I am a bit rusty on all this. I am rebuilding my older PC. It's specs are here below:- AsRock 970 Pro 3 R2.0 AMD Phenom II 555 Black Edition - Ram ?? (maybe yours electric bill?) - Thermaltake TR2 RX 450W PSU - Graphics Card ?? (maybe Onboard Graphics) - Western Digital 500Gb RE4 SATAII 7200rpm Enterprise - Pioneer DVR-213LS DVD Burner - Antec "Three Hundred" Case - Antec TriCool 120mm Blue LED Case Fan x 2 - Logitech K310 Washable - Keyboard Logitech MX400 Mouse - Xubuntu 14.10 64bit (OS) excellent - Viewsonic VX2233WM 21.5" DVI/VGA

Sorry for the confusion. When I first built the computer I used the same 555 BE as you have. Later I switched to an AMD Zambezi FX-4100 X4 Quad-Core processor @ 4.00GHz. The 555 is now in my Asus M4A88T and the RAM is Kingston HyperX Red KHY16C981RK2/8 that consists of 2-4GB modules .

Thanks Bill. Yes I have the "Phenom II X2 555" like you had in your early build, and I am down the track going to upgrade to a faster CPU like the one you have now. Did you have the same RAM (Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB), as in your specs for your PC above, when you had the 555 CPU like the one I have now, which is from my old PC? It is 1.00am here in OZ now, so I will get back to any replies later.. Thanks in advance :-)

Yes I had the Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB. It's in an HTPC and I had to add lots of cooling fans and change the air flow.

Seeing you did have the "Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB KHX1600C9D3B1K2/8GX" RAM in the HTPC Box, with the original "Phenom II X2 555 BE", in the beginning: this means that the 555 BE will operate properly with the "Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB ...." that you had in it then. You have helped me a great deal electric bill; with the specs of your System. I am now soon going to get the "Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB KHX1600C9D3B1K2/8GX" single stick, as this is what has been alright with your HTPC in the beginning. Could you tell me, if you needed to add the extra cooling Fans etc, when you had the 555 BE in the HTPC with the "Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB ..." in the beginning, or was that a neccessary thing you had to do, when you added the "AMD Zambezi FX-4100 X4 Quad-Core CPU"? Thanks again :-) I'll will get back later now..

    HyperX KHX1600C9D3B1K2/8GX is a kit of two 512M x 64-bit (4GB) DDR3-1600 CL9 SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM).
No I didn't need extra cooling with the 555 CPU. Keep in mind that this is in a Home Theater PC, the same size as a Stereo receiver. I did use a Coolermaster GeminII S cooler with a 120mm fan which blows down on the CPU and surronding chipsets.

    Smile Re: DDR3 1600 Ram (2Gb or 4Gb) with AsRock 970 Pro 3 R2.0

Thanks Bill, for the info on the "Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB KHX1600C9D3B1K2/8GX" Ram you used in the Media Centre Box of yours, and that it is 2 x 4Gb sticks.. That is perfect for my setup.

I went to order that Ram today, but that one is very hard to get now easily here.. But I am in the process of seeing if I can get the one very like it - the "Kingston's KHX1600C9D3K2/8G - a kit of two 512M x 64-bit (4GB) DDR3-1600 CL9 SDRAM".. It seems like the specs of it, is very much like the specs of the one you have.. I am thinking that this will be fine with the "AsRock - 970 Pro3 R2.0" Motherboard of mine.

It may take me several weeks to get it, & build my new PC Tower; & I very much appreciate your help with this "electric bill"

I am going to try to keep this thread open for 2 or 3 weeks from now, until I have brought this new "Kingston" Ram & installed it; so I can give an update on it; & hopefully the thumbs up? If it does work, that will make it a good Linux/Ubuntu Box. The Motherboard of mine has been reviewed as working with Linux.
