Default Core Ratio multiplier locked at 16x.

I've recently overclocked my CPU (i7-2600k) to 4.2ghz. I ran prime95 for a few hours with no errors and just left it at that. my temps were hovering around 60-70 under load. (mobo is z68 extreme3 gen3)

I had to go into my bios settings to fix an issue with something. and I decided I wanted to turn my oc up a notch. and then each time I put in something it would automatically go to 16x. does anyone know what causes this? I just recently redownloaded extreme tuner from the disc if that's a possible candidate. I've decided to use the optimized preset overclock setting on the board until I can figure out what happened. it seems to be stable so far. I just don't know why I can't manually overclock it myself anymore?
