    Smile X99 Extreme4 cannot detect Sapphire HD7970 Vapor-X, 10 beeps

    Hi everyone,

I have weird problem with my VGA Sapphire HD7970 GHz Vapor-X 3GB DDR5, the AsRock X99 Extreme4 cannot detect it, I have tried put in another PCIE slot but still not detect. I can confirm that the Sapphire HD7970 is working well with another machine, but it cannot detect when connect to X99 Extreme4, black screen, no display, just only 10 beeps sound.

    What i have tried.
    - X99 Extreme4 with another VGA HD5870, HD7950 = work normally.
    - X99 Extreme4 with Sapphire HD7970 GHz Vapor-X 3GB DDR5 = no display, only 10 beeps.

    Another notes:
    - My VGA Sapphire HD7970 is confirm working well with another machine
    - The additional power supply 8 pin x 2 for VGA has connected normally, and i am sure no problem with power supply.
    - I have tried, 2 VGA XFX HD7950 (slot 1), HD5870 (slot 3) = working well, BIOS can detect 2 VGA (x16, x16)
    - XFX HD7950 (slot 1), Sapphire HD7970 (slot 3) = working only slot 1, BIOS detect only XFX HD7950 in slot 1
    - HD5870 (slot 1), Sapphire HD7970 (slot 3) = working only slot 1, BIOS detect only HD5870 in slot 1
    - Sapphire HD7970 (slot 1), XFX HD7950 (slot 3) = no display + 10 beeps, no boot
    - only Sapphire HD7970 (slot 1) = no display + 10 beeps, no boot
    - only Sapphire HD7970 (slot 3) = no display + 10 beeps, no boot

It seem like the problem came from Sapphire HD7970, I am planning to use HD7970 but using XFX HD7950 for temporary solution for now.

    NOTE:
I have posted the 10 beeps thread at the following...

    AsRock x99 Extreme4 with 10 beeps

Later, i just realise that i use another VGA after the CMOS reset, so that's why the 10 beeps gone. It should be Sapphire HD7970 problem instead of CMOS reset, so i start the new thread here.

I also have checked the VGA compatibility for the motherboard, but not found any information. But generally it should be working.

    Anyone has any idea?

Contact ASRock Tech Support and ask that they roll you a new BIOS incorporating your HD7970.

Video card compatibility issues have been a "thing' with the X99 boards. A new BIOS will fix you right up.

    Sorry for get back lated...
After communicated with ASRock tech team, they assist with some solution, but still cannot make the Sapphire HD7970 Vapor-X to work.
they try with another VGA and it working flawlessly, unfortunately that the ASRock tech team cannot find the specific Sapphire HD7970 Vapor-X to test.

Because of i need to use the machine for work, so I finally gave up and go for another VGA instead, now i am using Gigabyte R9 280X (x2 cross fire) instead and it work flawlessly. (a bit confused, because of HD7970 and R9 280X is also the same GPU, but overclocked, but i am ok because it working)

Anyway, really appreciated for response from ASRock tech team support.
and many thanks to -wardog- for advised.
