Default ASUS p8z68v continuous reboot cycle

    Hi everyone.

Basically my computer just constantly reboots over and over and over again. These are new parts which I have installed which are the p8z68v and an i5 2500k and I'm yet to get it to work.

The parts are second hand because I was on a right budget and couldn't get them parts new anymore.

These are the full specs of the computer.

    Xfx gtx 295
    Intel i5 2500k
    Asus p8z68 v-lx
    Corsair vengeance 2x4gb 1600mhz
    Arctic Cooling Freezer 7
    Antec 900 case
    OCZ gameXstream 850w psu

So here I start. Basically it turns on the dram light and cpu light turns on once and then turns off when the computer turns of. I read that they turn on when they are working correctly and then turn back of, and they flash when there is an issue, so my guess is it isn't that. Anyway then it turns off and turns back on and does this continuously. Here is a video of what happens Reboot - YouTube I know the cables are all over the place but thats temporary.

I have tried resetting the CMOS also no change, tried different configuration of the TPU An EPU switches tried reconnecting every cable multiple times. Tried to place the gpu in a different slot and also tried it without a gpu.

Tried placing 1 ram stick in each slot an then trying to reboot also no luck.

I have tried to reposition the cpu by taking it all apart and replacing it. I looked to see if there is any bent pins which I cannot see even with a magnifying glass.

I'm not connecting my monitor etc etc although I don't think that will make the computer boot?

I didn't actually reformat the HDD before putting the "new" parts in as I didn't think I would have needed too. The parts that came out before was a ASUS p5p43td and a Q8300 cpu.

I took a photo when resitting the cpu and i dont think there is any bent pins on the mobo, although i'm no expert on what they look like.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Paul

Well my friend suggested he had the same issue. Replaced the psu and it worked fine. Although the PSU worked fine in my other motherboard although my old motherboard only used 20pin for motherboard power and 4 pin for cpu power. Whereas this uses 20+4 and 4+4 which is on my psu. Could it be that the +4 parts have been faulty from the start just haven't noticed as I haven't had to use it?

The only leds that light up are the dram and cpu led and also there is a little power on button on the motherboard which has a light on continuously when I have power connected too the mobo which is for breadboarding testing which I have already tried.

Someone suggested its not loading due to my hdd still having windows installed from my old motherboard. Although I thought it should still load to bios if so just wouldn't load to windows.

    Thank you for your help

yeah it should still load into the bios with old hdd attached, and cpu/dram led will light up and go out once it starts to load windows

id try psu, even if it worked fine on old board, some boards simply wont work and some will, depends on the compatibility

only way to be sure is test with another

you need the 24 pin plug and either a 4 or 8 pin cpu power plug from psu for it to work

Yeah I will try that then.

My friend also suggested that he has done this multiple times to order a psu from amazon test if it works and if not just send it back and he said he has done this loads and they give you a full refund. Not to sure whether to believe it or not yet but looks like I'll have too.

Can you recommend a psu to use which will be fairly cheap but reliable as I have no clue. Oh and also have the right power for future upgrades of GPU not SLI but just a better GPU as the one im using currently is poop

I will order one of those and then respond back to see what happens. Hopefully i'll be in luck and finally manage to get it working.

Think I'm just gonna get this as its fully modular and as my case isnt very good for cable management this should help a bunch.

And its by a well known brand.

Moral of the story now, got my new psu today plugged it all in and its still doing exactly the same thing so it must either be the motherboard the cpu or the fact im totally incompetent at building a computer (Although I've done it before).

    Thanks for your help.

    This is a absolute nightmare.

can you return the psu? I was 99% sure it would be that

it only leaves the cpu or board now,its rare for cpu's to die tbh,

if you could get hold of a cheap Pentium g620 you could test it with that

EDIT: you can also try building outside of the case on wooden or cardboard surface just to rule out any shorts on the case
