Default USB3 boost for Asus X54H-SX137D

    Hi guys,

Finally found a true Asus support forum... My laptop is a X54H-SX137D, at least that's what the label at the back says : never seen any official ASUS page listing it.

I gather that my machine has an ASMedia 1042 USB 3.0 Host Controller. After all that time, this is the first time I am encountering a USB 3.0 HDD, so naturally was tweaking around with it. Currently have installed "ASMedia USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller" Driver version 1.16.28.1. The controller firmware version is 120816_02_02_6D.

Question : I want to enable UASP aka USB 3.0 Boost with my machine.... From various places it appears that ASM1042 supports UASP. Running Windows 8.1 so it should not be a problem.

I cannot say if the portable HDD (Seagate Expansion 1TB external drive) hardware supports UASP or not : there seems to be no way to check.

Does anyone else know if this machine can support UASP, or if I can find out in some way? Also, how do I know if a device supports UASP or not?

    Welcome to the forum.

A web search using: how to enable uasp should show you how to check for UASP compatibility and if it is enabled.

A web search using: ASM1042 uasp driver support should provide additional help.

Windows Device Manager and some storage software tools should help you.

That's an LMGTFY, but anyway :

    1) The only worthwhile link from google query #1 is this tomshardware article , which is great for info, but does not tell me how to activate it, minus Asus's USB 3.0 boost, and ASRock's XFast USB 3.0 utilities. I have tried many different ways of installing the USB 3.0 boost application, but it doesn't show any difference. (Even finding it was a pain). I certainly got no indication in device manager about a "USB 3.0 Boost Driver". I will however try ASRock's XFast soon.

    2) Google query #2 again only yields the tomshardware article linked above.

Some interesting news though, is that when I connected the external to my USB 2.0 drive (my laptop contains 1 USB3 and 1 USB2 port), it immediately added it as UAS drive! I now have no idea what's going on.

After a long time... BUMP!! I still have the same issue...

I get "USB Attached SCSI (UAS) Mass Storage Device" when attached via USB 2.0.
I get "USB Mass Storage Device" when attached via USB 3.0

The only thing that has changed is that I got an external casing with an SSD and I need both the extra speed as well as the SCSI UNMAP command for TRIM.

Another funny thing is when the USB cable was not fully inserted into the USB 3.0 slot, UASP was activated but speeds were USB 2.0. When I pushed it in, the speeds jumped but UASP deactivated and it went back to the old USB mass storage device. So the port supports UASP, the device supports, it, but something in the middle doesn't support UASP on USB 3.0.

    Please guys, some help needed.
