You need some kind of output from your tape player to go to the line in port of your sound card.

If your tape player has a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, then just use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm stereo lead and plug it in to headphone jack and line in port.

Thanks mr Beefy, I think I've got that.

The lead is 3.5mm jack at hi-fi end, then 3.5mm jack to headphone socket on the pc and 3.5mm to the line in of the sound card?

    One Jack into two?

No, just go from hifi to soundcard. I was only suggesting the headphone jack on your hifi system if you didn't have any other outputs.
