    i think you have got a wrong impression of quality of a sound bitrates relate to MP3.
    CD quality means that in an average play you will be getting nice clear output that you get with a CD but don't expect all the highs of extreme treble and all the depth of bass...thats simply impossible at 160 or 192.

    when MP3 came into existence the plan was to cut those sounds out that we humans can't hear so that the file size could be reduced but eventually the disk space hunger increased and stuff like 96kbps came up but it was not supposed to be like this.

    i agree with you whole-heartedly that MP3's don't sound the way original CD's do...but then they were never meant to sound the same :cheers:

    At first I used 128, but when I compared it with the CD I could hear the difference. Now I am using the VBR option and it sounds a lot better without using the much HD space
