I just bought the new Samsung 52x/24x/52x DVD/CDRW combo and didn't hook up the audio cable that came with it. I can't tell any difference in sound when listening to music. Is there any reason to use it?

The audio cable is only used when you are playing an audio CD in the drive, unless it is played via software that does all the audio processing.

Throw in a music CD and see what it sounds like. ;)

I tried a music CD and couldn't tell a difference. Is software audio processing not good? I can easily plug the cable in I just wanted to know if it is needed for best sound.

Not really. What software are you using to play the CD?
