probably a dumb question, but is your system volume turned up?

By that you mean the basic volume control panel, right? Yes, I have done all the basic things like that.

ok, then here is another question that I probably don't need to ask...is the speaker jack fully pushed into the port

sometimes they get pulled or wahtever and become partially dislodged, which can cause them to have a very low volume

What Sound card / Operating system / speakers?

Have you tried other speakers or headphones?

I have the same thing. My problem is I'm using un-amplified speakers, and my onboard sound, AC'97, do not amplify the sound output. Check if your speakers are amplified, and if your sound card will amplify the output. You may be in the same boat as me, in need of new speakers.

I dont have a problem when using a pair of headphones. Only with the external Speakers.

So i guess I should go buy a new set of amplified speakers?
