Is the nForce2 chipsets onboard sound better quality than an Audigy 2 card? If it's not, how good is it?

If it is Soundstorm certified (not all nForce2 sound chipsets are), then it's damn close to Audigy 2 quality. However, there are a few very minor things that the Audigy 2 can do that the Soundstorm can't. Quality wise though, they are much the same unless you are very picky.

You wouldn't happen to know if the Asus A7N8X-X motherboard has the nForce2 Soundstorm thing, would you?

    Yep, sure does.

It has a pretty nice chipset for onboard sound.

From what I have been reading in my new CPU magazine, soon it won't be necessary to have a seperate sound card. As they are coming out with some even better chipsets.

One of the neat features I was reading about is how you will be able to plug in your speakers in ANY of the 3 jacks and it will configure itself for that jack to be the speaker output on its own.
Not a big feature, although interesting.
It should be out real soon, if it already hasn't made it on a board or two.
