I have a Creative Labs Audigy Soundcard. When I play specific games, I can choose between a variety of sound setups: EAX, EAX2, DirectSound3D, etc... Which type will sound best with my new 5.1 speakers I'm getting soon?

    Use DirectSound with EAX2.

Ok, I got the new speakers (Logitech Z-680s and they're great). Now I have to choose which effect I want on the main controller. There are the following (with observations):

1.) Dolby Digital PL2 Movie - sounds like decent surround sound
2.) Dolby Digital PL2 Music - same as above, but not as good
3.) 6 Ch Direct - I have no idea what this means, but when I use it, the rear speakers don't seem to work
4.) Stereo - basic stereo setting
5.) Stereo x2 - all speakers working, but doesn't quite sound like surround sound

which system to use? So far, the Dolby Digital PL2 Movie sounds best with my games.

Good choice in speakers. ;) Same as me.

How have you got the PC connected to the speaker set?

If you have the three stereo cables (yellow, green, black) connected, then you need to set it to 6 Ch Direct. Make sure that you've got the right cable connected to the right ports though. (I hook them up with Green = Front speakers, Black = Rear speakers and Yellow = Centre / Sub).

The reason Stereo x 2 doesn't sound right is because it just replicates the front Stereo channel onto the rear speakers.

I have all of those connected like you describe, but for some reason, get no sound from my rear spearks when I use 6 ch direct. I am plugging into a Creavtive Labs Audigy, and I'm pretty sure I did it right... any thoughts as to why I'm not gettting any rear sound on JUST this effect?

Have you set Windows / Creative AudioHQ to use 5.1ch speakers?

Ever have one of those times where you build a computer from scratch, can't get it to work, and it's because you forgot to plug in the power? Yeah, one of those moments for me. :?:

Thanks for the help, Beefy. All is well.
