hey guys, just recently bought a Sony NetMD MZ-N510S. i am pretty pleased with it, until i try to put songs on it from the computer.

The software that comes with it (SonicStage v1.5) has a very irritating and limiting way of transferring songs to the MD. eg:

    - you are limited in how many times you can put a particular song on the MD Disc
    - it wont allow you to delete songs of the MD disc itself, giving a File Protection error

after a lot of time looking around on Google and websites, people suggested using "Simple Burner". i done this with a few songs (about 12) and it worked fine. When i tried to burn about 30 (some big songs, some as long as 20mins), the SB program had a illegal op.

The websites recommended to use Nero to make a audio cd, select the songs, burn it to the HDD, and use Nero ImageDrive to mount it to J: (for example). Simple Burner would then recognize it.

i tried with 99 music songs, and at around 20% completed it came up with a "Recording Error".

does anyone know why i get this error? or any other alternatives/patches to the SonicStage/Simple Burner programs? im after one that is easy to use but Googling around isnt much help.

Thanks in advance (im not sure if this kinda thing is permitted on the forums, correct me if it isnt)

    g'day champ.

    I have an MZN707 Type-R

The software that i had bundled was the
Sony OpenMG Jukebox version 2.2[GA]for NetMD's.

Yours is a net MD, so i'm puzzled as to why you got some different software than i did.

Ive never had any problem with this software.

you basically import the songs into the software
(via directing the correct folder c:/music/etc.)

    select the files

Software converts them to which bit rate you want

Then it will write them to the MD

I can delete any write as i please.

Im querying as to why sony did not give you the same software that i have been given, its really user friendly, you know the noobish styles they do :P

Try and get your hands on that software

    Sony OpenMG Jukebox version 2.2[GA]

or email me i'll see how i can get it to you somehow.

Sorry for buding in, but is the netMD the one that allows for faster transfers (not realtime) than regular MD?
Im in the market for one of the MP3 players, but cant really decide which.

from what i heard, your compressed mp3 have to be compressed again to atrac3, giving a big drop in quality. just get a 10g ipod from amazon <$240 shipped i believe........

after looking for the OpenMG v2.2 software I came across this:

    http://gear.ign.com/articles/355/355477p1.html

sounds like they have the alot of the same problems as the v1.5(GA) version.
    - must convert mp3's to atrac3 files. (i have a 40gb music collection, 2x40 = 80gb :()
    - same song can only be put on 3 different discs.
    - low quality atrac3 files (132kbps is the highest i think)
