I have a killer system, and a killer Home Theater System, well I think its killer. Its a Yamaha 605 watt SS System with powered subwoofer, this thing is in my room, and if I turn it half way up it will blow the neighborhood apart and my eardrums, anyways... I just built my new computer and I have a Gigabyte motherboard with AC97 intergrated sound card. The sound card sucks. It is suppose to have SPDIF (optical) and Coxail out but it doesn't work. I don't think it ever will. I need a sound card with SPDIF out that I can just hook up to my Yamaha and listen to great 5.1 Dolby or stereo MP3's. I want to listen to my MP3's, Play games, Record audio from TV in order to record TV with my GeForce FX 5700 by Pixelview. My Surround Sound System is 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS. It has about 6 Optical inputs to the reciever and one coxial digital input. I want to spend no more than $150. It must have optical out (SPDIF) and inputs that accept analog from TV (or some convert that I can buy that does this). I don't want an external piece of equipment or one that has connections in a front 5.25 slot. Just a PCI interfaced 5.1 or higher sound card, that has Optical out.

I see that the Aureon 5.1 Sky is a nice card and I am very interested in this. I only have 5.1 anyways, it has an optical out and has a good review.

SoundBlasters are the ONLY way to go, since they were there first...

    Get a good Audigy.
    I may be a n00b...but I know a few things...

Not really. :) There's plenty of other good alternatives out there.

As for the initial problem, are you sure that you've set the onboard soundcard up properly? I'm all for saying 'go out and get this or that', but if you can fix what you got, it's probably better.
