Default Jump on the LCD bandwagon - yay or nay??

Tossing up on whether to buy a larger CRT monitor, or jump on the LCD bandwagon, and into the new century.
Heard that LCDs aren't so good for gaming. Opinions please??

ive got no experience of standalone LCDs however the LCD on my laptop is perfect for gaming, there is no ghosting or trails and the image is sharper than on my crt monitor on my main system.
as long as you get a good LCD then it should be fine for gaming

Well it depends on the persons taste, CRT are great for gaming, especially the flat face ones, but they don't save space compared to lcds. LCDs are also good for gaming, depending on which lcds you buy. I reconmend samsung and dell since their monitors don't have ghosting and trailing.

    I recently switched from 2 19" Samsung 955DF monitors to 2 Samsung 17" 713T DVI LCD's on my systems

the image may have been slightly sharper on the CRT's but it's a pretty subjective thing - I think we're spitting hairs
the colour & brightness is better on the LCD's

there's definately no ghosting or trails

It does rely on what the person wants out of a monitor and there budget. Me personally I dont care how much room I save from a LCD. I would rather go with a bigger 22" CRT then a smaller LCD that doesnt perform any better and the screen size is smaller. If you are going to go LCD because you need the space or something then go for it, but make sure you do soem research on that particular model so you know if its good or not. You might have to spend quite a bit of money on a "good" LCD monitor though. You could buy a pretty good 22" for around 200

LCD is the best bet if you can afford a decent one. Oh and KoolDrew, no way in hell can you get a decent 22" for $200 in the US.

lol! I rek'n that's the cost of the box and the packing foam.

    The cheapest I can get a 22' CRT is $1300 NZ. (I think that's about $2600ish US) 20' LCD is about $2000.

    And that's not retail.

That's because you have a Yank mentality (kick it because the rest of the world is different). Even in Australia with a better exchange rate than NZ a 22" CRT is around $1000-1100aud.
