    Question simple random display question

my girlfriend's pc has a funny display glitch...

    oh yeah, pc info...
    storebought dell 4100
    processor: pentium 3
    ram: 1 card 256MB SYNCH 133MHz
    os: win xp
video card bios #: TOPSEARCH TS-M-8VOC 94V-D (if that helps @ all)

...anyway, the glitch: the images that appear on the monitor "bleed" a faint (but noticable) horizontal line across the screen. for example, each line of this text has a light gray band that extends horizontally. I know the issue is not the monitor as it's been changed while the problem was there. so my question is whether or not there's something simple that i overlooked, b4 i go & spend some extra $ on a new video card. or is the video card indeed on it's 'last leg' as i suspect? if so, any suggestions 4 a decent video card as a replacement? thanx a bunch 4 ur help.

I take it she is not goingto be gaming? You just need somthing simple to run apps right?

yeah, she's definitely not the 'gaming' type. heh but she does like 2 do some video/photo editing sometimes (adobe prgms). she has an external hd 4 video storage (not that u care) other than that though, just something that won't die (or get funny horizontal lines)
    thanx 4 the help

Well ATI holds on to the lover end of the video card market, even a 9200 might be overkill for your needs, other than that I dont follow alot of ATI's lower end stuff, maybe someone else can add in a comment on that.

My MX440 runs all my apps nice and smoothe, but lacks pixel shaders if they are nessary.

I've been getting a little annoyed because I need that support for what I am trying to program right now... I realy regret getting this now...

if she doesent need the pixel shading support then almost anything will do
